Agent Pet

xiangking/agent-pet

Floating desktop pet that reacts to Hermes Agent, Codex and Claude Code activity or WebSocket messages

In short

Agent Pet is a lightweight desktop companion built with Tauri v2, Rust and React that plays sprite animations while AI agents work. It monitors local activity from Hermes Agent among other tools and also reacts to WebSocket messages.

What Agent Pet does

Agent Pet floats a transparent window on your desktop and plays Codex-compatible sprite animations: a 1536x1872 atlas with 8 columns and 9 rows of 192x208 cells, in WebP or PNG. It can monitor local activity for Codex CLI, Claude Code, opencode, OpenClaw, Hermes Agent and Antigravity, with source paths and optional source prefixes you can customize.

It also listens on a built-in WebSocket endpoint at ws://127.0.0.1:8765, so any script can drive the pet with a JSON message of type new_message, mention, error, processing, waiting_input, review_required, success or idle. Each type maps to an animation, and a pet.json file can change the mapping. Custom pets live in a user directory and take priority over built-in ones. Settings are reached from the system tray, with pet size presets and drag movement. The app checks pet IDs, sprite paths, file extensions and sprite dimensions. macOS and Windows have been tested locally, while Linux should work through Tauri but is not fully verified.
