Android voice client with wake word and Wear OS support for OpenClaw and Hermes Agent backends

In short

WakeHermesClaw is a native Android voice client, the successor to OpenClaw Assistant, that adds Hermes Agent as a peer backend next to OpenClaw. It offers wake word activation, a voice overlay and Wear OS support.

What WakeHermesClaw does

WakeHermesClaw keeps the features of the earlier OpenClaw Assistant: offline wake word detection, a Voice Overlay, Gateway and HTTP backends, Wear OS, on-device node capabilities and continuous conversation. It adds the Hermes API Server as a backend you can configure alongside OpenClaw, with one backend chosen as Primary. Existing OpenClaw Assistant installs upgrade in place and their settings migrate on first launch.

For Hermes, you run hermes gateway with the API server enabled on its default port 8642, bind it to your LAN or VPN, create an API key, and add it under Settings, Backends, Add Hermes API Server. The app accepts http://host:8642 and the /v1 form, uses a bearer token, defaults to the model name hermes-agent and tests the connection against /v1/models, falling back to /health. An optional Mobile Bridge, off by default, exposes a bearer-protected local HTTP service so Hermes can reach a curated set of Android capabilities, with pairing codes and time-limited grants.

Key features

  • Wake word, Voice Overlay and continuous conversation on Android
  • Backends: OpenClaw Gateway, OpenClaw HTTP and the Hermes API Server with streaming and Runs API
  • Optional Mobile Bridge with 6-character pairing codes and per-capability time-limited grants
  • Wear OS app with its own backend URL and token
  • In-place upgrade from OpenClaw Assistant with settings migration

When to use it

  • Talking to a Hermes Agent by wake word from an Android phone
  • Switching a phone assistant between OpenClaw and Hermes backends
  • Allowing Hermes to use selected phone capabilities after explicit approval

Who it is for: Android users who run Hermes Agent or OpenClaw and want a voice-first mobile client.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Hermes Agent is supported as a first-class backend through its API Server, alongside the original OpenClaw backends.

Requirements: A Hermes gateway with the API server enabled (default port 8642), reachable over LAN or VPN, and an API key for Bearer authentication.
