Hermes Desktop plugin: press Tab in the composer to turn a rough draft into an execution brief

In short

Grill Tab is a Hermes Desktop plugin that asks you the few decisions that matter before you send a prompt, then writes a faithful execution brief into the composer for your review. Nothing is sent on your behalf.

What Grill Tab does

Type an intent in the composer and press Tab. A fast auxiliary model asks the single most useful decision, never a fact it could look up, with a recommended answer and a couple of short options. Tab again to commit an answer, or accept the recommendation. Press Enter and the settled answers are synthesized into a brief placed in the composer, and you press Enter yourself to start the session.

The brief restates what you asked for and decided, without widening scope or adding deliverables, and it is written in the language you used. Grill Tab registers its own auxiliary task, grill_tab, so you choose its model through hermes model, the Desktop settings or config.yaml, and a rung should take 1 to 3 seconds with a fast model. Settled rungs can be edited in place, and a palette command and the Cmd+Shift+G keybind start a grill. Tab inside slash or @ completions and on an empty composer is never intercepted.

Key features

  • Tab-driven questions, one decision at a time, each with a recommended answer
  • A brief written into the composer for review, never sent automatically
  • Its own grill_tab auxiliary task with a configurable model
  • Editable settled rungs without losing later ones
  • Works for research, writing, planning, operations, design, data and code
  • An alternative install.sh for profiles and custom homes

When to use it

  • Tightening a vague request into a clear brief before starting a session
  • Answering a few key decisions quickly by accepting recommendations with Tab
  • Using a cheap, fast side model for prompt refinement while a stronger main model does the work

Who it is for: Hermes Desktop users who want to clarify a rough prompt before the agent starts working on it.
