Terminal chat client for OpenClaw gateways, Hermes Agent profiles and OpenAI-compatible endpoints
Lucinate is a terminal chat client written in Go that connects to OpenClaw gateways, Hermes Agent profiles and OpenAI-compatible endpoints. It streams replies, renders markdown and deliberately leaves out file browsers and dashboards.
What Lucinate does
Lucinate is a terminal-native chat client for talking to agents. On first launch it opens a Connections picker, and three connection types are supported: an OpenClaw gateway over WebSocket with Ed25519 device pairing, any OpenAI-compatible /v1/chat/completions endpoint such as Ollama, vLLM or LM Studio, and a Hermes Agent profile through its /v1/responses API server. For Hermes, one connection maps to one profile, and chat state stays server-side.
Features include streaming responses, markdown rendering, queued messages, shell commands that run either locally or on the gateway, local agent skills loaded from ~/.agents/skills/ and invoked as slash commands, and multi-step prompt sequences called routines. The README marks several features as OpenClaw-only, including tool call cards, live token and cost stats, the /think control and the cron browser. Agents can be created and deleted from the TUI, but Hermes profiles are created on the server with hermes profile create.
Key features
- Saved connections to OpenClaw, Hermes Agent and OpenAI-compatible backends, switched with /connections
- Streaming responses with markdown rendering
- Message queueing so you can keep typing while the agent replies
- Local agent skills from ~/.agents/skills/ invoked as slash commands
- Routines: multi-step prompt sequences replayed with /routine
- Per-agent header colour set with /header
When to use it
- Chatting with a Hermes profile from a terminal over its API server
- Switching between a Hermes profile, an OpenClaw gateway and a local Ollama model in one client
- Replaying a fixed sequence of prompts as a routine
Who it is for: Terminal users who run Hermes Agent, OpenClaw or local models and want a plain, fast chat interface.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
Supports Hermes Agent as one of three backends, using a profile's /v1/responses API server. Some features in the README apply to OpenClaw only.
