Herald

Unofficial native Android client for Hermes Agent with chat, approvals, notifications and voice

In short

Herald is an unofficial native Android client for Hermes Agent. It connects to the hermes dashboard you already run, so you can chat with your agent, approve its actions and follow its work from your phone.

What Herald does

Herald is a native Android client for Hermes Agent. It connects to the hermes dashboard you already run on a server, homelab, VPS or Tailnet, in the same way Hermes Desktop's Remote gateway connection does. There is no Herald server and no account, because the app talks to your gateway directly. The README states that it is an independent project, not made or endorsed by Nous Research.

In chat it streams replies with Markdown, code highlighting and tool activity, lets you steer, queue or stop a running reply, and supports photos, files, dictation and voice calls. Control features include approvals and secret prompts, subagents, background processes and checkpoints, and cost and context usage. It also has a sessions sidebar, bots and rooms, scheduled jobs, toggles for skills, toolsets and MCP servers, notifications with inline approve and reply, optional end-to-end encrypted push, several saved gateways, an encrypted offline copy of recent chats and app lock.

Key features

  • Streaming chat with Markdown, code, math, reasoning and tool activity
  • Approvals, questions and secret prompts, also from a notification
  • Subagents, background processes and checkpoints you can watch, stop and restore
  • Sessions sidebar with search, pins, projects and archive
  • Scheduled jobs and toggles for skills, toolsets and MCP servers
  • Optional end-to-end encrypted push, offline copy of recent chats and app lock

When to use it

  • Approving a pending agent action from a phone notification
  • Chatting with a home-server Hermes agent while away from the desk
  • Checking the cost and context usage of a running conversation

Who it is for: Hermes Agent users who run the dashboard on a server and want a native Android app to reach it.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built for Hermes Agent: it talks directly to the gateway behind hermes dashboard, with no separate Herald server.

Requirements: Android 8.0 or newer, and the Hermes Agent dashboard running (hermes dashboard) and reachable from your phone. It is built against Hermes Agent's main branch as of October 2026.

Note: Herald is an independent project not made or endorsed by Nous Research, and older Hermes Agent versions may lack some features it expects.
