Local macOS dashboard for browsing Hermes Agent skills, with a Terminal Mode AI agent

In short

Hermes Skill Deck is a local macOS dashboard for browsing Hermes Agent skills from your filesystem. It syncs SKILL.md files into SQLite and adds a Terminal Mode AI agent that can search, create and delete skills in natural language.

What Hermes Skill Deck does

Hermes Skill Deck syncs SKILL.md files from ~/.hermes/skills/ and ~/.hermes/profiles/*/skills/ into SQLite, then serves them through a FastAPI backend to a React, Vite and Tailwind frontend. The macOS app is a native Tauri webview pointed at a FastAPI server on 127.0.0.1:8765, so skills stay on your machine. Prebuilt bundles for Apple Silicon and Intel are on GitHub Releases.

The dashboard offers folders, drag-to-reorder, favorites, a Recent screen with the 24 latest synced skills, profiles and a command-K search bar. Custom skill boxes use category rules, and the top menu bar can be customized on first launch or later. A skill viewer renders markdown with related-skill chips. Terminal Mode uses a GLM, Claude, OpenAI or DeepSeek model with your own API key to search skills and to create or delete them from plain-English requests. Browsing is read-only, paths are validated to stay inside ~/.hermes, and deletes need confirmation from the agent.

Key features

  • Syncs SKILL.md files from ~/.hermes/skills/ and profile skill folders
  • Folders, favorites, drag-to-reorder, Recent screen and command-K search
  • Custom skill boxes with category rules and a customizable top menu bar
  • Markdown skill viewer with related-skill chips
  • Terminal Mode AI agent using GLM, Claude, OpenAI or DeepSeek
  • Local-only server, with deletes requiring confirmation

When to use it

  • Browsing a growing library of Hermes skills in a visual dashboard
  • Finding a skill by searching or asking the Terminal Mode agent in plain English
  • Organizing skills from multiple Hermes profiles into boxes and favorites

Who it is for: Hermes Agent users on macOS who have accumulated many skills and want a visual way to browse and organize them.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built around Hermes Agent's skill directories: it reads ~/.hermes/skills/ and each profile's skills folder, and Terminal Mode writes or removes SKILL.md folders under ~/.hermes.

How to install Hermes Skill Deck

These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.

python3 -m pip install -r requirements.txt
python3 sync_skills.py
uvicorn server:app --reload --port 8000

Requirements: macOS, Python 3.10+ and Node.js 20+. Terminal Mode needs your own API key for GLM, Claude, OpenAI or DeepSeek.

Note: The macOS app is unsigned, so Gatekeeper warns on first launch.

FAQ

What is Hermes Skill Deck?

Hermes Skill Deck is a local macOS dashboard that lists your Hermes Agent skills. It reads SKILL.md files from your ~/.hermes folders and shows them with folders, favorites and search.

Do my skills leave my machine?

No. The README says everything runs locally and skills never leave your machine. The only optional outbound calls are Terminal Mode requests to the AI provider you choose, using your own key.

How do I install Hermes Skill Deck?

Download a prebuilt macOS bundle from GitHub Releases and open it, using right-click Open the first time because the app is unsigned. To run from source, install the Python requirements, run sync_skills.py and start the uvicorn server, then run the frontend with npm.
