Read-only macOS menu bar and desktop widget showing Hermes Agent status, sessions and token use

In short

Hermes Status Widget is a read-only macOS app that puts Hermes Agent's local status in the menu bar and in a WidgetKit desktop widget. It shows whether Hermes is online, active sessions and recent token use.

What Hermes Status Widget does

Hermes Status Widget is a Swift app that reads the local Hermes state and shows it in two places. The menu bar dropdown carries the detailed view, and the desktop widget carries a compact one. It reports whether Hermes is online, how long the agent has served today, up to three current or recently active sessions, tokens used in the last 24 hours and the split between models.

The main app stays in the menu bar and reads local state every 30 seconds from ~/.hermes/gateway_state.json, gateway.pid and state.db, and runs ps for the gateway's memory use. The WidgetKit widget reads a snapshot that the main app writes. It does not call the Hermes dashboard and does not write to Hermes' database or configuration. Sessions come from the sessions and messages tables, with in-progress ones listed first. A non-default Hermes directory can be set with the HERMES_HOME environment variable. The README is written in Chinese.

Key features

  • Online or offline state of the local Hermes Agent
  • Time the agent has served today
  • Up to three active or recent sessions, in-progress ones first
  • Tokens used in the last 24 hours, broken down per model
  • Detailed menu bar dropdown and compact WidgetKit desktop widget
  • Read-only access to Hermes files

When to use it

  • Glancing at the menu bar to confirm Hermes is running on a Mac
  • Keeping a desktop widget with the last day's token use per model
  • Checking which sessions are active without opening a terminal or dashboard

Who it is for: Mac users who run Hermes Agent locally and want a quick status readout without opening a dashboard.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built for Hermes Agent; it reads the gateway state files and state.db under ~/.hermes and never modifies them.
