Simplify Swarm

Three parallel read-only agents review a diff, then apply simplifications by risk tier after approval

In short

Simplify Swarm is a code simplification skill for Hermes Agent that dispatches three parallel read-only sub-agents named Hygiene, Clarity and Correctness at your git diff and applies fixes by risk tier only after you approve. It is inspired by Claude Code's /simplify.

What Simplify Swarm does

Run /simplify or ask to simplify your changes. The orchestrator detects scope from the git diff, dispatches the three agents, merges and de-duplicates their structured JSON findings, stops at a hard approval gate and then applies changes in SAFE, CAREFUL and RISKY order. Hygiene hunts dead code, AI slop and pass-through wrappers, Clarity targets duplication, naming and structure, and Correctness traces N+1 queries, leaks, races and silent failures.

SAFE items such as unused imports go first once approved, CAREFUL items such as renames are applied one file at a time with test verification, and RISKY items such as public API changes are flagged for you and never auto-applied. The consolidator re-reads the cited code to verify high-confidence and RISKY findings and reports how many survived. Language packs cover TypeScript and JavaScript, Python, Go and Rust. The skill follows the open Agent Skills standard, so it works on any agent runtime that can run parallel read-only workers, and it only runs when you ask.

Key features

  • Three parallel read-only agents: Hygiene, Clarity and Correctness
  • Findings returned as structured JSON with confidence and risk override
  • SAFE, CAREFUL and RISKY tiers with different application rules
  • A hard approval gate before anything is changed
  • Language packs for TypeScript or JavaScript, Python, Go and Rust
  • Opt-in only, with no auto-trigger

When to use it

  • Cleaning up dead code and redundant wrappers in a branch before review
  • Catching N+1 queries or unclosed resources in a diff
  • Getting a triaged report of simplification candidates without edits being applied

Who it is for: Developers who use Hermes Agent for coding and want a reviewable, tiered cleanup pass over their own changes.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

It is written as a skill for Hermes Agent, though it follows the open Agent Skills standard and is described as agent-agnostic.

How to install Simplify Swarm

These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.

git clone https://github.com/Sahil-SS9/hermes-simplify-swarm.git
cp -r hermes-simplify-swarm/SKILL.md hermes-simplify-swarm/references <your-harness-skill-dir>/simplify-swarm/

Requirements: No dependencies or config, and an agent runtime that can spawn parallel read-only workers and collect structured JSON.

FAQ

What is Simplify Swarm?

Simplify Swarm is a multi-agent code simplification skill. Three parallel read-only agents analyze a diff, a consolidator merges their findings, and changes are applied by risk tier after approval.

Does Simplify Swarm work with Hermes Agent?

Yes. It is described as a skill for Hermes Agent, and because it follows the open Agent Skills standard, other agents that can run parallel read-only workers can use it too.

Does Simplify Swarm change my code without asking?

No. The approval gate is hard, and nothing is applied, including SAFE changes, until you answer. The exceptions are explicit pre-authorisation or auto_apply: true in the project config.
