What Claude Subscription DirectSDK (Experimental) does

The plugin speaks native stream-json directly to the claude binary rather than depending on the Python Agent SDK package, despite its name, while Hermes keeps its own normal agent loop, tools, approvals and compaction unchanged. It has no credentials of its own: every request goes through the already-authenticated claude CLI, and the plugin checks for that binary at every seam, failing with an install hint rather than a raw traceback when it is missing.

Native runs in their own process group so a cancelled request kills the whole process tree, including the Node child behind the npm shim, on Linux, macOS and Windows alike. A request-scoped loopback relay forwards only the first Messages request a native run attempts and rejects any further generations locally, since the underlying Claude Code CLI can attempt extra generations even with retries disabled; Hermes receives the first completed response, its real usage and its native stop reason.
