Local-first Electron desktop client for Hermes Agent with guided install and model sync
Hermes Forge is a community-built, local-first desktop client for Hermes Agent, built with Electron, React and TypeScript, that wraps the official agent in a chat-centered workspace.
What Hermes Forge does
Hermes Forge guides first-time users through environment detection, Hermes installation and model configuration, then keeps the desktop client's model settings synced in real time with the Hermes CLI and gateway runtime to avoid configuration drift between them. Chat uses the official AIAgent directly, inheriting the active Hermes profile's persona, tool set, turn and time budgets, fallback models and provider routing, so tool approvals and clarifying questions round-trip back to the same task by request id.
The client reuses Hermes' own model-cache mechanism when restoring a session, loading only the current summary and the effective tail of messages rather than re-sending already-compressed history, and shows context usage and cache-hit statistics in the input bar. Skills, memory and messaging connectors, cron jobs and desktop automation are reachable from the workspace but stay off by default, and the app auto-updates itself through electron-updater and GitHub Releases.
Key features
- Guided first boot: environment detection, Hermes install, model configuration
- Real-time model-config sync between the desktop client, Hermes CLI and gateway
- Session restore using Hermes' own model cache and context-compression format
- Context usage and cache-hit-rate indicators in the chat input bar
- Auto-update through electron-updater and GitHub Releases
When to use it
- Running Hermes Agent from a native Windows or macOS desktop instead of the terminal
- Watching context and token-cache usage while a long Hermes session runs
- Keeping desktop and CLI Hermes model configuration from drifting apart
Who it is for: Hermes Agent users on Windows or macOS who want a native chat workspace instead of the terminal TUI.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
Hermes Forge is a desktop client built specifically around Hermes Agent, running the official AIAgent class directly rather than reimplementing agent behavior.
How to install Hermes Forge
These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.
git clone https://github.com/Mahiruxia/hermes-forge.git
cd hermes-forge
npm ci
npm run devRequirements: Node.js 22.12+, npm 10+, Git, uv; Hermes supports Python 3.11-3.13, and a fresh install uses a uv-managed Python 3.11
Note: This is a community project, not an official Hermes Agent client, and current builds are unsigned, so the first launch shows a system security warning.
