Hermes Dynamic Workflows
lingjiuu/hermes-dynamic-workflows
Hermes Agent plugin that runs model-written Python workflows to orchestrate many parallel subagents
Hermes Dynamic Workflows is a Hermes Agent plugin that lets the model write a sandboxed Python script and run it in a background runtime to coordinate many subagents. It is modeled on dynamic workflows in Claude Code.
What Hermes Dynamic Workflows does
This plugin adds a workflow runtime to Hermes Agent. Instead of following a fixed pipeline, the model writes a sandboxed Python script on the fly and the plugin runs it in the background. The script starts with a literal meta dictionary and then calls helpers such as agent(), parallel() and pipeline() to launch and coordinate large numbers of independent child agents. The README suggests codebase audits, large migrations and cross-validated research.
Child agents have types: general-purpose is the default, explore and plan are read-only, and verification adds web, file, terminal and browser tools to run builds and tests and report PASS or FAIL. Custom types are Markdown files in project or user directories. Limits such as concurrency, total agents per run, timeouts and launch approval are set in the plugin's section of ~/.hermes/config.yaml, and an optional separate dashboard, hermes-workflows, shows run progress and each subagent's prompt and output.
Key features
- Model-written sandboxed Python scripts with agent(), parallel() and pipeline() helpers
- Four built-in child agent types: general-purpose, explore, plan and verification
- Custom agent types defined as Markdown files at project or user level
- Config for concurrency, agent count, timeouts, launch approval and child approval policy
- Optional isolation of agents in git worktrees
- Separate hermes-workflows terminal dashboard for live run progress
When to use it
- Auditing a large codebase by reviewing each target in parallel and then verifying the findings
- Running a repetitive migration across many files with one subagent per target
- Cross-checking a research question with several independent agents before synthesis
Who it is for: Hermes Agent users who want to fan work out to many subagents and need limits and approval gates on how far a run can go.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
A plugin built for Hermes Agent, installed with hermes plugins install and configured in the Hermes config file.
How to install Hermes Dynamic Workflows
These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.
hermes plugins install lingjiuu/hermes-dynamic-workflows --enable
python3 "${HERMES_HOME:-$HOME/.hermes}/plugins/dynamic-workflows/scripts/install-hermes-workflows.py"Requirements: Hermes Agent with plugin support; gateway users must run hermes gateway restart after installing; the second install line is only for the optional dashboard
FAQ
What is Hermes Dynamic Workflows?
It is a Hermes Agent plugin that lets the model write a sandboxed Python script and execute it in a background runtime. The script orchestrates many subagents through agent(), parallel() and pipeline().
Does Hermes Dynamic Workflows work with Hermes Agent?
Yes, it is a plugin for Hermes Agent. After installing, tell Hermes to run a workflow that does what you need, and gateway users restart the gateway first.
How do I install Hermes Dynamic Workflows?
Run hermes plugins install lingjiuu/hermes-dynamic-workflows --enable. The live dashboard needs a separate one-time script because the plugin install does not set up its console scripts.
