pk-pi-hermes-evolve

kingkillery/pk-pi-hermes-evolve

Pi package that evolves SKILL.md, prompts and AGENTS.md files, inspired by Hermes Agent Self-Evolution

In short

pk-pi-hermes-evolve is a package for the pi coding agent that improves local instruction files such as SKILL.md and AGENTS.md, adapting the idea behind Nous Research's Hermes Agent Self-Evolution.

What pk-pi-hermes-evolve does

pk-pi-hermes-evolve adapts the first phase of Nous Research's Hermes Agent Self-Evolution to pi. You pick a local instruction artifact such as a SKILL.md, a prompt template, AGENTS.md or SYSTEM.md. The package builds a compact evaluation set from synthetic tasks, recent pi session history or both, runs a reflective loop that generates candidates, and scores the baseline against each candidate with an LLM judge.

Results are saved as a reviewable report and candidate files under .pi/hermes-self-evolution/, and the original file is never overwritten automatically. Commands include /evolve for an interactive picker, /evolve apply to copy the best candidate into the target after a typed yes confirmation, and a self_evolve_artifact tool the model can call. The default engine is written in TypeScript with a tiered constraint pipeline and golden datasets. An optional --accelerate mode adds a Python DSPy and GEPA optimizer when Python and DSPy are installed.

Key features

  • Evolves SKILL.md files, prompt templates, AGENTS.md and SYSTEM.md
  • Builds evaluation sets from synthetic tasks or recent pi session history
  • Reflective candidate loop scored by an LLM judge
  • Saves reports and candidates without overwriting the original file
  • /evolve command and a self_evolve_artifact tool
  • Optional Python DSPy and GEPA acceleration

When to use it

  • Improving the wording of a skill file using real session history
  • Reviewing candidate rewrites of AGENTS.md before adopting one
  • Comparing a baseline prompt against generated variants with a judge model

Who it is for: pi users who maintain skill, prompt and AGENTS.md files and want measured rewrites they can review.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

It does not run inside Hermes Agent; it ports the Hermes Agent Self-Evolution workflow to the pi coding agent.

Requirements: Python and DSPy are needed only for the optional --accelerate mode

Note: It is a pi package inspired by Hermes Agent Self-Evolution, not a plugin that runs inside Hermes Agent.

FAQ

What is pk-pi-hermes-evolve?

pk-pi-hermes-evolve is a pi package that generates, scores and saves improved versions of local instruction files such as SKILL.md and AGENTS.md. It applies a Hermes-style mutation, evaluation and human review flow.

Does pk-pi-hermes-evolve work with Hermes Agent?

Not directly. It is a pi package inspired by Nous Research's Hermes Agent Self-Evolution and targets pi's skills, prompts and AGENTS.md files rather than running inside Hermes.

Is pk-pi-hermes-evolve free and open source?

Yes. The repository is licensed under the MIT license, and the package is also published on npm.
