Hermes Profile Kit

NewTurn2017/hermes-profile-kit

CLI that sets up isolated Hermes Agent profiles with their own config, memory, tokens and personas

In short

Hermes Profile Kit is a command-line setup utility that creates isolated Hermes Agent profiles from a manifest. Its default set has four profiles, coder, assistant, research and community-bot, each with its own config, memory, gateway tokens and persona.

What Hermes Profile Kit does

Hermes Profile Kit installs as the Python package hermes-profile-kit and exposes the hpk command. Its setup wizard reads manifest.yaml and, for each profile, checks that Hermes is recent enough, creates the profile if it is missing, copies SOUL.md and config.yaml from a template, and seeds .env from .env.example with mode 0600 without overwriting an existing file. It then prompts for required and optional tokens with provider-specific guidance and asks before enabling each recommended plugin, such as Honcho memory or Brave search.

Running hpk setup again is safe because existing profiles and .env files are preserved, and hpk setup --force overwrites templates. A non-interactive mode takes tokens on the command line and is meant to be driven by an LLM agent such as Claude Code or Codex, followed by hpk verify. An AGENTS.md playbook and a machine-readable command index give agents the rules. API keys are stored in plain text with chmod 600, and the README states the kit does not pretend to encrypt them.

Key features

  • Creates four isolated profiles: coder, assistant, research and community-bot
  • Copies a SOUL.md persona and a config.yaml template into each profile
  • Seeds .env files with mode 0600 and never overwrites existing ones
  • Idempotent hpk setup, with --force to overwrite templates
  • Non-interactive mode with --token and --accept-plugin flags, plus hpk verify
  • manifest.yaml as the declarative source for profiles, tokens and plugins

When to use it

  • Setting up several separate Hermes agents on one machine in a few minutes
  • Letting Claude Code or Codex install Hermes profiles from a single prompt
  • Adding a custom profile with SOUL.md, config.yaml and .env.example files plus a manifest entry

Who it is for: Hermes Agent users who want several isolated agents with their own personas and tokens without hand-writing each profile.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built for Hermes Agent profiles; it requires Hermes 0.12.0 or newer on PATH and writes into ~/.hermes/profiles/.
