Postgres and pgvector memory provider for Hermes Agent, also usable as a standalone MCP server
Hexus is a Postgres-backed vector memory layer that plugs into Hermes Agent as a memory provider and also runs as a standalone MCP server for Claude Desktop, Cursor and other clients. Embeddings are computed locally with a small BERT model.
What Hexus does
Hexus runs a Hermes plugin and an MCP server in one process with a shared local embedder (MiniLM-L6-v2), storing memory in PostgreSQL with pgvector in memory_entries and conversations tables. Search is plain vector math, with no LLM call and no cloud service in the read or write path.
It is aimed at fleets of cooperating agents. Each Hermes agent gets a scoped memory space, identified by the X-Hermes-Session-Key header, so one agent's notes do not overwrite or contaminate another's. To use it with Hermes you install the package, or drop the hexus module into ~/.hermes/plugins/hexus/, and set two configuration blocks: one that registers and configures the plugin with a Postgres connection string, and one that selects hexus as the memory provider. A Docker image on GHCR runs the MCP server for other clients.
Key features
- Hermes memory provider plugin backed by PostgreSQL and pgvector
- Standalone MCP server over stdio or HTTP
- Local MiniLM-L6-v2 embeddings with no cloud calls
- Scoped memory per agent for multi-agent setups
- Docker image for the MCP server
- Shared storage for Hermes and non-Hermes clients
When to use it
- Giving several Hermes agents separate memory spaces in one database
- Replacing local markdown memory files that get overwritten
- Sharing memory between Hermes and Claude Desktop or Cursor over MCP
Who it is for: Hermes Agent users who already run Postgres and want searchable, scoped agent memory.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
It is built for Hermes Agent as a memory provider plugin, and also exposes the same store to other MCP clients.

pip install hexusRequirements: PostgreSQL with pgvector and a connection string (DSN) in the Hermes config
FAQ
What is Hexus?
Hexus is a vector memory system on Postgres and pgvector. It works as a Hermes Agent memory provider plugin and as a standalone MCP server.
Does Hexus work with Hermes Agent?
Yes. Install it, then add a plugins.memory block with provider hexus and a Postgres DSN, and a memory block that sets provider to hexus. Both blocks are required.
Is Hexus free and open source?
Yes. The repository is released under the BSD-3-Clause license.
