Long-term memory and project map for AI coding agents from paste-in prompts or a Hermes skill

In short

wallaby-agent-rules is a plain-file memory system for AI coding agents, installed by pasting a prompt or, on Hermes Agent, with one hermes skills install command.

What wallaby-agent-rules does

wallaby-agent-rules gives a project's AI a long-term memory and gives the user a map of the project, using five plain files and no dependencies. AGENTS.md (or CLAUDE.md or .cursorrules) tells the AI to read its memory each session. MEMORY.md holds dated, sourced facts, decisions and rules, and on any conflict the file wins and the conflict is flagged. NOW.md tracks current work, and INDEX.md lists one line per file as a lookup map.

Two zero-dependency scripts support it. health_check.py runs ten weekly scans such as stray root files, index drift, stale entries and undated facts, and reconcile.py flags log entries that claim done while NOW.md still lists work in flight. A trust-building mode, on by default, has the AI propose new long-term memories for approval during the first two weeks. Setup is a one-click prompt or a nine-question interview, and Hermes Agent users can install the whole system as a skill with one command.

Key features

  • MEMORY.md with one dated, sourced line per fact
  • NOW.md for current state and INDEX.md as a one-line-per-file project map
  • health_check.py with ten weekly scans
  • reconcile.py to catch done claims that conflict with NOW.md
  • Trust-building mode that proposes memories for approval for two weeks
  • One-click or nine-question setup prompts, plus a Hermes skill

When to use it

  • Stopping settled decisions from being relitigated in long agent sessions
  • Finding where a file lives without searching the whole project
  • Tracking which version is live and logging releases with commit references

Who it is for: Developers who use AI coding tools, including Hermes Agent, and want a simple file-based memory they can inspect.
