Membase Plugin for Hermes

aristoapp/hermes-membase

Persistent long-term memory for Hermes Agent using hybrid vector search and a knowledge graph

In short

Membase Plugin for Hermes is a memory plugin that gives Hermes Agent persistent long-term memory through the Membase service. It recalls relevant memories before each turn, captures transcripts at session end and mirrors writes to the built-in MEMORY.md.

What Membase Plugin for Hermes does

Membase Plugin for Hermes gives Hermes persistent memory backed by the hosted Membase service, which combines hybrid vector search with a knowledge graph of entities, relationships and facts. One install command copies the plugin into ~/.hermes/plugins/membase/, sets memory.provider to membase in config.yaml, writes ~/.hermes/membase.json and opens a browser for OAuth login, so there are no API keys to paste.

During a session it works automatically. Auto-Recall searches memory before each turn and injects relevant snippets within a 4000-character default budget, skipping casual chat. Auto-Capture buffers turns and writes transcripts to Membase Wiki at session end, or after 5 minutes of silence or 20 buffered messages. A mirror hook copies writes to Hermes's built-in MEMORY.md into Membase, with a local hash index to prevent duplicates. The agent also gets tools such as membase_search, membase_store, membase_get_current_date and membase_add_wiki.

Key features

  • Auto-Recall of relevant memories before each turn, with a configurable character budget
  • Auto-Capture of transcripts to Membase Wiki at session end or after idle and size thresholds
  • Mirroring of built-in MEMORY.md writes into Membase with duplicate prevention
  • Hybrid vector search plus a knowledge graph of entities, relationships and facts
  • membase_search with date and source filters, plus store and wiki tools
  • OAuth login with no API keys to copy

When to use it

  • Carrying preferences, goals and decisions across Hermes sessions
  • Searching past conversations by date range or source
  • Backing up MEMORY.md writes to a searchable cloud store
