Hermes Herald

bennybuoy/hermes-herald

Hermes plugin that dispatches work across profiles, with model routing, subagent models and approval relay

In short

Hermes Herald is a Hermes Agent plugin that lets one agent send questions and tasks to other named Hermes profiles, spawn subagents with a chosen model, and run bare inference calls. It acts as a control plane between existing profiles.

What Hermes Herald does

Hermes Herald turns one Hermes Agent into a conductor of specialist agents and models. It adds a network of named Hermes profiles that can be asked questions or sent independent work, a model switchboard for subagents, and a lightweight inference lane for tasks such as classification or JSON generation that do not need a full agent loop. The three parts are independent, and each target profile keeps its own identity, memory, skills, credentials and tools.

Four tools cover the execution modes. dispatch_chat continues a conversation with a named profile and blocks until the reply. dispatch_agent sends fresh work to another profile and returns a run_id at once, monitored by SSE or polling. delegate_subagent starts a local child with a chosen model, context, SOUL identity and toolsets. llm_call returns text with no agent loop and no tools. The repository description also lists fail-closed model routing, SSE auto-delivery and approval relay.

Key features

  • dispatch_chat for persistent conversations with a named Hermes profile
  • dispatch_agent for independent work that returns a run_id immediately
  • delegate_subagent to run a local child on a different model
  • llm_call for classification, extraction or translation without an agent loop
  • Fail-closed model routing and approval relay
  • Multi-host setups, for example Hermes installations connected over Tailscale

When to use it

  • Sending code, security and documentation reviews to separate specialist profiles in parallel
  • Keeping an ongoing conversation with a tutor or curriculum profile
  • Classifying many items with bare inference instead of a full agent

Who it is for: Hermes Agent users who run several profiles and want them to hand work to each other.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built for Hermes Agent as a plugin installed on the profile that starts calls. It does not replace Hermes profiles or provider configuration.
