What hermes-yandex-mail does

hermes-yandex-mail lets Hermes Agent work through a Yandex mailbox over IMAP at imap.yandex.ru:993, with no third-party service in the middle. It adds up to eight tools in a yandex_mail toolset: list folders with unread counts, search, read, mark, move and delete messages, plus save_attachment and send_message, which stay off until you enable them by name. Reading peeks without marking mail as read, deletion goes to Trash by default, and a copy exists before an original is removed.

You can limit the agent to specific folders and actions, for example with YANDEX_MAIL_ACTIONS=read, and a disallowed action is absent from the toolset entirely. Saved attachments go to the Hermes document cache and only the file path returns to the model. Login uses a Yandex app password with the Mail scope instead of the account password, and IMAP must be switched on in the mailbox first. There are no runtime dependencies beyond Python's standard library, and it is checked against Hermes v2026.9.24, the latest release and main on Python 3.11 to 3.14.
