Local-first reflection loop for personal agents with receipts, human approval and a Hermes skill
QuietLoop is a small, local-first toolkit and Hermes Agent skill that turns an explicitly stated problem into a bounded, reviewable change with a receipt. Every change needs local human approval before it is applied.
What QuietLoop does
QuietLoop is a small, local-first toolkit and Hermes Agent skill for turning an explicitly stated problem into a bounded, reviewable change with receipts. Its loop runs observe, decide, stage, approve, apply, verify and receipt. The core package makes no network calls, and it does not discover your Hermes installation, read chat databases or scan token caches.
The toolkit includes a structured action parser for English and Chinese, a receipt-aware gate that skips repeat model calls for an already decided source and action pair, atomic JSON state with file locking, a redaction layer for secrets and paths, an idempotent retry queue, and a bounded apply primitive that stays disabled until a local reviewer approves an exact proposal. By default the apply step refuses code, shell commands, new files, path traversal, symlinks, stale preimages and oversized writes. The Hermes skill is a concise guide in SKILL.md. Private data and account adapters are deliberately not included.
Key features
- Structured action parser for English and Chinese
- Receipt-aware gate that avoids repeated model calls for decided items
- Atomic local JSON state with inter-process file locking
- Redaction of secrets, emails, home paths and long IDs from diagnostics
- Idempotent retry queue for pending delivery events
- Bounded apply step that needs local approval and creates backups and receipts
When to use it
- Keep a daily reflection job from repeating an idea that was already rejected
- Require a human to approve an exact proposed edit before an agent applies it
- Check afterward whether a change actually happened by reading its receipt
Who it is for: Hermes Agent users running personal agents who want reflection and self-modification to stay private, bounded and auditable.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
Ships as a Hermes Agent skill plus a local toolkit, with integration contracts rather than private Hermes implementation details.

FAQ
What is QuietLoop?
QuietLoop is a local-first toolkit and Hermes Agent skill for reflection loops that can show their work. It turns an explicit problem into a bounded change that a human approves and a receipt records.
Does QuietLoop work with Hermes Agent?
Yes. It includes a Hermes skill, SKILL.md, that gives operational guidance and integration contracts. The core package itself does not discover your Hermes installation.
What do I need to run QuietLoop?
You need Python 3.11 or newer and a POSIX file-lock backend, with Linux and macOS as the intended targets. The README install uses uv to create a virtual environment and then runs pytest.
