Autonomous agent loops for Hermes Agent: an autoresearch harness and read-only maintenance loops

In short

Hermes Loops is a collection of small, reviewable control loops for Hermes Agent, including an autoresearch harness for repository experiments and read-only health and improvement loops. Each package installs on its own.

What Hermes Loops does

Hermes Loops is a collection of small, reviewable control loops for Hermes Agent that run against a bounded target and either improve it or leave it unchanged. It contains two independently installable Python packages with opposite safety postures: autoresearch, which commits to or reverts a local git repository, and maintenance, which never writes to a Hermes installation.

The autoresearch harness is a Karpathy-style propose, test, keep or revert loop. An agent changes a repository, a score measures whether the change helped, and good changes become local commits while the rest are reverted. It is provider- and agent-agnostic and never pushes. The maintenance package has a read-only health loop that probes a selected Hermes home and reports healthy, warning, unavailable or unknown findings, plus an improvement loop that redacts a supplied outcome packet and turns notable outcomes into suggestions for human review. A third pattern, diagnostic review, lives as a skill in hermes-custom-pack.

Key features

  • autoresearch harness that keeps score-improving changes as local git commits and reverts the rest
  • Read-only Hermes health loop with healthy, warning, unavailable and unknown findings
  • Suggestion-only improvement loop that redacts outcome packets and never auto-applies
  • Two packages that install, version and test independently
  • Autoresearch playbook documenting the general methodology

When to use it

  • Let an agent run repeated experiments on a repository and keep only measured improvements
  • Audit the health of a Hermes install without changing it
  • Turn repeated agent outcomes into reviewable improvement suggestions

Who it is for: Hermes Agent users who want bounded, auditable autonomous loops for experiments and routine maintenance.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built for Hermes Agent, with the maintenance loops probing a Hermes home directory. The README says it is an independent community project, not affiliated with or endorsed by Nous Research.

How to install Hermes Loops

These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.
