Portable Hermes Agent bundle for USB drives with bundled Python, Node.js, web UI and a config center

In short

Hermes Portable is a zero-install, single-folder bundle of Hermes Agent that includes Python, Node.js and hermes-web-ui, so it can run from a USB drive on macOS, Windows or Linux. Its README is in Chinese.

What Hermes Portable does

The package bundles Python 3.12, Node.js, Hermes Agent and hermes-web-ui in one directory, and keeps configuration, sessions and history in an internal data/ folder, so it does not touch the host's ~/.hermes. A background config center on port 17520 manages API keys, models and channels, with 74+ LLM providers and channels including Telegram, Discord, Slack, WhatsApp, WeChat, email, Signal and Matrix. It starts in terminal CLI mode by default.

Two other modes are available from the config center: a web UI on port 8648 and an optional Electron desktop version, which is not included in every release package. Releases are published for macOS on Apple Silicon and Intel and for Windows x64, started by double-clicking Hermes.command or Hermes.bat, while Linux users build the package themselves and run ./Hermes.sh. Developers can build with tools/build.py, and CI workflows build and publish releases per platform.

Key features

  • Zero-install single directory with Python, Node.js, Hermes Agent and hermes-web-ui bundled
  • Data isolation: config, sessions and history stay in the package's data/ folder
  • Config center on port 17520 for API keys, models and channels
  • Terminal CLI by default, plus a web UI on port 8648 and an optional Electron desktop mode
  • Release packages for macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows x64
  • Build script tools/build.py for custom or Linux packages

When to use it

  • Carrying a working Hermes Agent on a USB drive between computers
  • Trying Hermes without installing anything or touching ~/.hermes
  • Setting up providers and chat channels through a browser form

Who it is for: Users who want to run Hermes Agent without installing dependencies, including Chinese-speaking users.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

A packaging of Hermes Agent itself: the bundle contains the Hermes Agent source and CLI plus hermes-web-ui in an isolated environment.

How to install Hermes Portable

These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.

unzip HermesPortable-macos-x64.zip
cd HermesPortable
./Hermes.command

Note: The README says the Windows package may lag behind the macOS ones because of CI runner network failures, and Linux users must build the package themselves.
