Discord Thread-First Channels

vforge-labs/hermes-discord-thread-first-channels

Hermes plugin for mention-free Discord channels that open a new thread for each conversation

In short

Discord Thread-First Channels is a Hermes Agent plugin that lets chosen Discord channels accept messages without an @mention while still opening a new thread for each top-level request. All other channels behave as before.

What Discord Thread-First Channels does

Hermes treats discord.free_response_channels as inline chat surfaces, and those channels skip auto-threading. This plugin supplies a narrower policy for the channels you list: no mention is required for a new request, a thread is created from each top-level request, the conversation continues inside that thread, and every other Discord channel stays unchanged.

For each configured parent channel, the plugin temporarily makes the current event mention-free while excluding the channel from the adapter's free-response set, so Hermes follows its normal auto-thread route. Child threads inherit the parent channel's policy. Per-event state uses a Python ContextVar so concurrent messages do not leak policy into each other. Channel IDs are set per profile in plugins.entries, and those channels must be kept out of the free-response settings. Unconfigured installs stay inert, and existing sender authorization and allowed-channel checks still apply.

Key features

  • No @mention needed for new requests in configured channels
  • A new thread created from each top-level request
  • Child threads inherit the parent channel's policy
  • ContextVar-based state keeps concurrent messages isolated
  • No tokens, guild IDs or channel IDs built in; inert until configured
  • Registers no model tools and keeps existing authorization gates

When to use it

  • Running a support or request channel where each question gets its own thread automatically
  • Letting a team talk to Hermes without mentioning the bot while keeping channels tidy
  • Applying the policy to some channels only and leaving the rest of the server unchanged

Who it is for: Hermes Agent operators who run a Discord gateway and want thread-per-conversation routing without @mentions.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

A profile-local Hermes Agent plugin that adjusts how the Discord adapter routes messages, without modifying Hermes core.
