Hermes Active

UniGood/hermes-active

Persistent consciousness layer that lets Hermes Agent message you first, inside the live session

In short

Hermes Active is a standalone service that runs next to Hermes Agent and lets the assistant start conversations on its own. Proactive messages are written into the live session, so a reply from the user arrives with full context.

What Hermes Active does

Hermes Active targets a weakness in scheduled proactive messages: each task starts a new isolated session, so the assistant forgets recent conversations and a user's reply arrives without context. This project runs a persistent layer beside Hermes Agent instead. A scheduler fires every N seconds (600 by default) and runs a perceive, feel, decide and act cycle. Mood is stored as valence, arousal and social need, which drift with elapsed time and are combined with an assessment from the language model. Long-term memory from Hindsight is recalled before every thought and reply.

The service reads Hermes Agent's state.db for sessions and messages, writing back only the proactive messages it sends, and keeps users, configs, cron jobs and logs in its own active.db. A web console shows a dashboard, consciousness logs, a Jinja2 template editor, a cron editor and ECharts analytics. The reference persona is Kally, and prompts and defaults are editable from the web UI. Hermes Agent's core is left unmodified apart from one optional session-sync patch.

Key features

  • Proactive messages written directly into the live Hermes session
  • Heartbeat scheduler with a configurable interval (600 seconds by default)
  • Valence, arousal and social-need emotion state that evolves with time
  • Inner contemplation loop that builds a compressed record of the assistant's thinking
  • Web console with dashboard, cron editor and Jinja2 template editor
  • Separate active.db, with Hermes' state.db read-only except for appended proactive messages

When to use it

  • Letting a personal assistant check in after a long silence and continue the conversation in context
  • Tuning a persona's mood, prompts and proactive-message schedule from a browser
  • Reviewing why a proactive message was sent through the heartbeat and thought logs

Who it is for: Hermes Agent users who want a companion-style assistant that starts conversations and remembers earlier chats.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built for Hermes Agent: it runs as a separate service that reads Hermes' session database and appends proactive messages to the live session, with one small optional session-sync patch.
