Local-first control plane adding project memory, agent teams and verification around coding agents

In short

AIOS is a local-first control plane that adds project memory, multi-agent coordination and verification around coding agents you already use, Hermes among them. It runs on top of the agent instead of replacing it.

What AIOS does

AIOS targets long-horizon coding work that falls apart between sessions. It adds cross-session project memory called ContextDB, adaptive workflow routing, multi-agent teams, resumable overnight runs, and evidence envelopes that record commands, exit codes, hashes and test output under .aios/. The README says it is not another agent framework: your agent stays as it is, and everything runs locally.

The supported agents it lists are Codex CLI, Claude Code, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Hermes, Grok, WorkBuddy, Pi and ZCode. After installing, aios init --all is run from a project root, and aios doctor --native --verbose reports what was detected, synced or skipped. Memory can be searched with aios memo search. The installer also detects RTK and Caveman, two local tools that compress command and agent output, and wires the Headroom MCP. Documentation is published in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

Key features

  • ContextDB project memory that persists across sessions and is searchable with aios memo search
  • Adaptive routing of work to the simplest workable path
  • Multi-agent teams that split work in parallel and keep coupled changes in order
  • Resumable long runs with checkpoints
  • Evidence envelopes stored under .aios/ for each run
  • aios doctor reports what was detected, synced or skipped

When to use it

  • Giving a coding agent memory of last week's decisions when it starts a refactor
  • Splitting a PR review and test update across several agents and collecting the evidence
  • Letting a release handoff run overnight and resume if it is interrupted

Who it is for: Developers who use one or more coding agents, including Hermes, and want shared memory and verification without changing their client.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

A general tool that supports Hermes among about ten coding agents. The README names Hermes in its list of supported clients but gives no Hermes-specific setup.
