Skill that interviews you on first start and routes answers to SOUL.md, USER.md, MEMORY.md and AGENTS.md
Hermes Identity Setup is a skill that gives a fresh Hermes agent an identity on first start. It maps each part of the agent's self to the right file, runs a short interview about the user and files every answer in the correct layer.
What Hermes Identity Setup does
A default Hermes agent starts blank, with no persona, no profile of its user and no working knowledge. This skill fixes that in one onboarding pass, modeled on how a new hire is onboarded. It treats Hermes as shaped by four markdown layers: SOUL.md for the agent's personality, tone and voice, USER.md for the user's name, role and preferences, MEMORY.md for environment facts and lessons, and AGENTS.md for project rules. Each layer has a different writer, so answers must be routed rather than dumped into every file.
The skill agrees on target files, then asks about 12 questions, each tagged with the file it belongs in. Persona answers go to SOUL.md, facts about you go to USER.md and environment notes go to MEMORY.md, with the memory tool handling saves, merging and budget. Because identity files are a frozen snapshot taken at session start, the skill tells you to restart the session. It also teaches a Tier 1 and Tier 2 split for the small memory budget and consolidates stale entries.
