Filesystem and Git framework for planning agent work in camp workspaces and stepping through it with fest next
Festival is a framework that keeps agent plans, checks and commits in files and Git so coding agents work the way the user configured. It works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode and other agents that can read files and run commands.
What Festival does
Festival describes itself as a vibe engineering framework built on the filesystem and Git. Everything lives in a camp workspace holding skills, planning documents, one-off scripts and projects, and a festival is an ambitious goal inside a camp. Users can create several camps, specialize each with its own skills and workflows, and move between them with camp switch (csw).
The user describes a goal in a sentence, the agent plans it inside the configured workflows, and fest next shows the agent the next step. Plans, checks and commits remain in files and Git after the session ends. The README says the agent returns when it reaches a review point or a decision that needs the user, and points to a demo repository where three completed festivals built a CodeSignal practice simulator with testing and review gates. A setup prompt can be pasted into a coding agent, which installs Festival, creates a camp and links an existing repository. Git is required.
Key features
- Camp workspaces for skills, planning documents, scripts and projects
- Festivals as tracked goals, with smaller work items inside them
- The fest next loop that hands the agent its next step
- camp switch (csw) to move between specialized workspaces
- State kept in files and Git, so it survives the end of a session
- Agent-assisted setup using a pasted prompt
When to use it
- Delegating a feature across several repositories with tests and documentation
- Investigating a slowdown and saving the evidence before changing production
- Running a recurring weekly dependency review that ends in an approval step
Who it is for: Developers who run coding agents at scale and need plans and review points tracked in files and Git.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
Supports Hermes Agent among other agents: the repository carries a hermes-agent topic, and the README says it works with any agent that can read files and run commands.
