Kerux

eikarna/kerux

Rust agent runtime with a terminal UI, chat gateway, cron and a Nous OAuth login option

In short

Kerux is a self-contained agent runtime written in Rust, with a streaming ReAct loop, a terminal UI and a Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord and Slack gateway. It is an independent project; its repository is tagged hermes-agent and its CLI offers kerux auth login nous.

What Kerux does

Kerux runs a streaming-first ReAct loop that detects and executes tool calls incrementally from partial model output, using a tolerant XML parser and self-healing re-prompts when a call fails. A ratatui terminal UI shows reasoning, tool activity, MCP and skills management, and a live HUD with tokens per second, cache hits, context use and cost.

kerux serve starts a messaging gateway with Telegram long-polling, a WhatsApp bridge, Discord and Slack adapters, inbound webhooks, tool approval, voice-note speech-to-text, cron scheduling and subagent delegation. An autonomous mode reads TODO.md, validates changes with local tests and pushes only after they pass. Sessions, memory, todos and cron jobs are stored as JSON under ~/.kerux/. Optional settings add a fallback provider chain for 429 and 5xx errors and budget limits that can warn, pause, stop or downgrade the model.

Key features

  • Streaming ReAct loop with incremental tool execution and self-healing re-prompts
  • Ratatui terminal UI with a live telemetry HUD
  • kerux serve gateway for Telegram, WhatsApp, Discord and Slack, plus webhooks and cron
  • Autonomous coding mode driven by TODO.md and local test validation
  • Fallback provider chain and budget guardrails with warn, pause, stop and downgrade actions
  • Hash-chained run journals and a transactional git workflow with a TUI /undo command

When to use it

  • Running a small Rust-based agent with a Telegram bot front end on a home server
  • Letting an agent work through a TODO.md list overnight and push only when local tests pass
  • Capping model spend with budget limits and automatic fallback between providers

Who it is for: Developers who want a single-binary Rust agent with a terminal UI and chat gateway, and who are comfortable with a project separate from Hermes Agent.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

An independent Rust runtime, not a Hermes plugin. Its topics include hermes-agent and hermes-rs and its CLI supports Nous OAuth login, but the README does not describe running Hermes skills or sessions.
