Hermes Skins

joeynyc/hermes-skins

16 custom visual themes for the Hermes CLI, installed as single YAML files

In short

Hermes Skins is a collection of YAML themes that change how the Hermes CLI looks, including banner colors, spinner verbs, response labels and ASCII art.

What Hermes Skins does

Skins change the visual presentation of Hermes only: banner colors, spinner faces and verbs, response-box labels, branding text, the tool activity prefix and ASCII art banners. They do not affect personality or behavior. The repository ships 16 custom skins, including Pirate, Vault-Tec, Lain, Neonwave, Sakura, Netrunner, Catppuccin, DOS, Telemate and a DGX Spark theme, and lists the seven skins already built into Hermes for reference.

A skin is one YAML file placed in ~/.hermes/skins/. It can be switched for a session with the /skin command or set permanently under display.skin in config.yaml. Any value a skin leaves out is inherited from the default skin, so a custom theme can be only a few lines long. A minimal example in the README sets just banner colors, thinking verbs and branding. SCHEMA.md documents the full list of keys, and contributors are asked to define all 28 color keys.

Key features

  • 16 custom skins with themed ASCII art and spinner verbs
  • Per-skin colors for banner border, title and accent
  • Missing values inherit from the default skin
  • Session switch with /skin and permanent switch in config.yaml
  • Minimal example and SCHEMA.md for writing your own skin

When to use it

  • Giving the Hermes terminal a retro, synthwave or pastel look
  • Writing a small personal skin that overrides only a few colors
  • Contributing a new theme as a pull request

Who it is for: Hermes CLI users who want a different look for their terminal sessions, and theme authors.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built for the Hermes CLI. Skins live in ~/.hermes/skins/ and are selected with the Hermes /skin command or the display.skin config key.
