Hermes Swift Mac

hermes-webui/hermes-swift-mac

Native macOS app that wraps Hermes Web UI in its own window with an optional SSH tunnel

In short

Hermes Swift Mac is a native macOS desktop app, titled Hermes Agent for macOS, that shows Hermes Web UI in a WKWebView window. It adds a Dock icon, notifications and an SSH tunnel mode for remote servers.

What Hermes Swift Mac does

Hermes Swift Mac is a thin native wrapper written in Swift. It does not run the agent itself. It opens Hermes Web UI, from the nesquena/hermes-webui project, in a WKWebView window, with no Electron and no dependencies beyond Xcode Command Line Tools. If Hermes Web UI is not running, the app shows a connection error on launch.

It has two connection modes. Direct mode points at a local instance, by default http://localhost:8787. SSH Tunnel mode opens a tunnel to a remote server on launch, watches it, shows its state in a status bar with a one-click Reconnect, and closes it on quit. Other features include pasting text and images from the clipboard, file upload, voice input, macOS notifications when a reply finishes in the background, Sparkle auto-update and a global shortcut that brings the window forward.

Key features

  • Native Mac window around Hermes Web UI, built with Swift and WKWebView
  • Direct mode for local instances and SSH Tunnel mode for remote servers
  • Status bar with live tunnel state and one-click reconnect
  • Clipboard paste for text and images, file upload and voice input
  • macOS notifications when a response finishes while the window is in the background
  • Signed, notarized DMG with Sparkle auto-update

When to use it

  • Use Hermes Web UI as a Dock app instead of a browser tab
  • Reach a Hermes Web UI on a remote server through an SSH tunnel
  • Get a desktop notification when a long Hermes response completes

Who it is for: Mac users who already run, or plan to run, Hermes Web UI and want it as a regular desktop app.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

It is built for Hermes: a native client for Hermes Web UI, which in turn fronts Hermes Agent. It needs Hermes Web UI running locally or on a server.
