Hermes Dashboard

chrisryugj/hermes-dashboard

Web admin dashboard for the Hermes Agent gateway covering config, MCP, cron and models

In short

Hermes Dashboard is a single-file web admin interface for the Hermes Agent gateway that lets you change models, edit config, manage MCP servers and cron jobs, and read logs from a browser instead of the CLI.

What Hermes Dashboard does

Hermes Dashboard is a single HTML file with no build step and no dependencies, served by the Hermes gateway's API server at /dashboard (http://localhost:8642/dashboard in the README). The installer copies its files to ~/.hermes/dashboard/, patches api_server.py to register the dashboard routes, and enables the API server in .env.

The tabs cover gateway status and platform connections, one-click model and provider switching with an automatic restart, MCP server add, edit and delete (including pasting Claude Desktop, Cursor or VS Code MCP JSON), cron job management, a skills browser, config.yaml and .env editors with secret masking, a SOUL.md editor, live logs and session browsing. Every /api/dashboard route requires API_SERVER_KEY as a bearer token, and without the key the routes return 503. An optional macOS menu bar monitor shows gateway status.

Key features

  • One-click model and provider switching with gateway auto-restart
  • Add, edit and delete MCP servers, or paste Claude Desktop, Cursor or VS Code MCP JSON
  • Create, edit, pause, resume and run-now controls for cron jobs
  • Editors for config.yaml, .env (secrets masked) and SOUL.md
  • Skills browser by category with SKILL.md detail
  • Live gateway logs, session browsing and restart with health polling

When to use it

  • Switching models or editing cron jobs on a running gateway without the CLI
  • Importing an existing MCP server config from Claude Desktop, Cursor or VS Code
  • Reviewing gateway logs and sessions from one page

Who it is for: Hermes Agent operators who prefer a browser admin page to editing config files and running CLI commands.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built specifically for the Hermes Agent gateway: it registers its routes inside Hermes' api_server.py and reads and writes Hermes config.yaml, .env, SOUL.md, cron jobs, skills and sessions.

How to install Hermes Dashboard

These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.

git clone https://github.com/chrisryugj/hermes-dashboard.git
cd hermes-dashboard
./install.sh
hermes gateway restart

Requirements: A Hermes Agent gateway with its API server enabled and API_SERVER_KEY set; the README examples use port 8642

Note: The installer patches Hermes's api_server.py, and the dashboard routes can write .env and restart the gateway, so API_SERVER_KEY must be set before the port is exposed.

FAQ

What is Hermes Dashboard?

Hermes Dashboard is a web-based admin interface for the Hermes Agent gateway. It offers configuration and control of models, MCP servers, cron jobs, skills, environment variables, SOUL.md, logs and sessions without using the CLI.

How do I install Hermes Dashboard?

Clone the repository, run ./install.sh, then restart the gateway with hermes gateway restart. The installer copies the dashboard to ~/.hermes/dashboard/, patches api_server.py and enables the API server in .env, and the dashboard is then at http://localhost:8642/dashboard.

Does Hermes Dashboard require authentication?

Yes. All /api/dashboard routes require API_SERVER_KEY as a bearer token and return 503 without it. The README warns that these routes can write .env, restart the gateway, create cron jobs and read session contents, so do not expose the gateway port through a tunnel or reverse proxy before setting the key.
