Obsidian vault scaffolder that gives any AI agent an identity layer through ME.md and AGENT.md
Personal API is a shell-based skill that scaffolds an Obsidian vault into an identity layer, so any AI agent that reads ME.md and AGENT.md gets your background, collaboration rules and knowledge-system navigation.
What Personal API does
Setup creates an identity contract (ME.md), a behavior contract (AGENT.md) and thin adapter files, CLAUDE.md for Claude Code and AGENTS.md for Codex and OpenAI Agents. The vault also gets numbered folders for current context, identity, skills, a memory stream of daily logs and reflections, and navigation maps. By default it adds a full Knowledge Palace v2 structure in 30.knowledge/, and the --minimal flag skips it.
The vault splits into an identity track, which the agent reads first and changes only with authorization, and a knowledge-production track, where it compiles, organizes and links notes under methodology rules. Knowledge moves from capture through research, notes, frameworks and outputs to archive. The setup script preserves existing files and only creates missing ones. Because the protocol is plain markdown, any agent that can read files can use it, including Cursor, ChatGPT and Gemini when pointed at the two files.
Key features
- ME.md identity contract and AGENT.md behavior contract
- Thin CLAUDE.md and AGENTS.md adapter files
- Knowledge Palace v2 production track in 30.knowledge/
- Minimal mode that creates only the identity layer
- Setup script that keeps existing files and adds only missing ones
When to use it
- Starting a new chat or project without re-explaining your background and communication style
- Keeping an Obsidian knowledge base that an agent can navigate and maintain by rule
- Pointing several different agents at one shared identity and behavior file
Who it is for: Obsidian users who work with more than one AI agent and want their context written down once.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
Agent-neutral: the repository is tagged hermes-agent and works with any agent that can read markdown, though its README names Claude Code and Codex adapters rather than Hermes.

FAQ
What is Personal API?
Personal API is a skill that turns an Obsidian vault into an identity layer for AI agents. It generates ME.md, AGENT.md, adapter files and an optional knowledge-production structure.
Does Personal API work with Hermes Agent?
It is agent-neutral, since the protocol is plain markdown that any file-reading agent can use, and the repository is tagged hermes-agent. The README documents adapters for Claude Code and Codex and does not describe a Hermes-specific setup.
How do I install Personal API?
Set OBSIDIAN_VAULT_PATH to your vault and run bash scripts/setup.sh from the repository. Add --minimal to create only the identity layer without the 30.knowledge/ track.
