Converts Hermes, Claude Code, Codex and OpenClaw agent memory into markdown for gBrain
hermes-gbrain-bridge is a small, dependency-free TypeScript tool that converts agent memory from Hermes, Claude Code, Codex CLI and OpenClaw into clean markdown that gBrain can ingest.
What hermes-gbrain-bridge does
Agent tools store memory in different formats, and gBrain only imports markdown. The bridge discovers agent memory on disk, filters it by mtime window and size floor, adapts it into a canonical event format, redacts secrets and writes markdown per source. Hermes sessions (~/.hermes/sessions/*.jsonl) become one markdown file per session with tool schemas stripped, and MEMORY.md passes through with its §-delimited entries. USER.md is also listed as a supported Hermes source.
It also reads Claude Code, Codex CLI and OpenClaw archives. The bridge never touches the database: it writes markdown to a staging directory, and gBrain handles import, chunking, embedding and storage, so a bug can at worst produce bad markdown. The commands are discover and export, with --source, --dry-run, --days and --out options. The README's example setup pairs gBrain with Postgres, pgvector and pg_trgm on Railway.
Key features
- Adapters for Hermes sessions, MEMORY.md and USER.md
- Adapters for Claude Code, Codex CLI and OpenClaw archives
- Secret redaction, mtime windows and size floors
- discover and export commands with a --dry-run mode
- Writes markdown only and never touches the gBrain database
When to use it
- Building one searchable knowledge base from years of Hermes session logs
- Previewing which agent conversations would be exported before ingesting anything
- Adding an adapter for another agent's memory format by following the extending guide
Who it is for: Developers who use Hermes alongside other agents and want their conversation history in a single gBrain knowledge base.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
Built to read Hermes memory, including session JSONL files and MEMORY.md, and convert it for gBrain.

FAQ
What is hermes-gbrain-bridge?
hermes-gbrain-bridge converts agent memory from tools such as Hermes, Claude Code, Codex CLI and OpenClaw into markdown. gBrain can then import that markdown into a searchable knowledge base.
Does hermes-gbrain-bridge work with Hermes Agent?
Yes, it reads Hermes session JSONL files and the MEMORY.md and USER.md memory files in ~/.hermes. Each Hermes session becomes one markdown file.
How do I install hermes-gbrain-bridge?
Clone the repository and run bun install. Then use bun run src/cli.ts discover --days 30 to see what is available before exporting.
