What Hermes Dreaming does

Hermes keeps a small durable memory: MEMORY.md is about 2,200 characters and USER.md about 1,375, and both are injected into every session prompt. Hermes Dreaming treats that space as scarce. Its consolidation cycle has three phases. Light scans recent sessions for candidate facts and preferences, Deep looks for patterns, contradictions and supersessions, and REM scores candidates and applies at most a few high-confidence add, replace or remove operations.

A run can produce zero durable writes, because the aim is the most future usefulness per character. Changes take effect at the next session start, since Hermes loads memory as a frozen snapshot. The plugin offers /dreaming run, review, status and compact, plus matching hermes dreaming commands. review is a dry run, and install-cron registers a nightly 03:00 job. State, an audit diary, decisions and timestamped backups of both memory files live in ~/.hermes/dreaming/.
