Hermes Mobile PWA

Mobile-first installable web app for controlling a self-hosted Hermes Agent dashboard from a phone

In short

Hermes Mobile PWA is a thin, mobile-first progressive web app for controlling a self-hosted Hermes Agent from a phone, talking to the Hermes dashboard over REST and a JSON-RPC WebSocket.

What Hermes Mobile PWA does

Hermes Mobile PWA lets you use a self-hosted Hermes Agent from a phone without Xcode, TestFlight or iOS-specific dependencies. It is intentionally a thin client: no agent logic runs in the browser, and the app talks to a Hermes dashboard over REST and /api/ws JSON-RPC. Working pieces in this initial MVP are an installable PWA shell, a connection screen with password, token and mock modes, a recent session list, and a live chat screen over a WebSocket adapter.

Password mode is preferred: the app posts to /auth/password-login, receives httpOnly cookies and fetches a fresh ws-ticket before opening the socket. Token mode is experimental, and the ordinary API_SERVER_KEY does not authenticate the dashboard endpoints it uses. Mock mode needs no server. There is no active service worker and API responses are never cached. The README recommends running it same-origin with the dashboard or behind a private network such as Tailscale, and the roadmap includes approval cards, Web Push and a slash command palette.

Key features

  • Installable mobile-first PWA shell
  • Password, token and mock connection modes
  • Recent session list and live chat over WebSocket JSON-RPC
  • No service worker and no caching of API responses
  • Unit tests, typecheck and a secret scan script

When to use it

  • Checking on and continuing a Hermes session from a phone
  • Reaching a home or VPS Hermes dashboard over Tailscale
  • Developing UI work against mock mode without a Hermes server

Who it is for: Hermes Agent users who self-host the dashboard and want a phone-friendly way to chat with their agent.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built for Hermes Agent: it is a client for the Hermes dashboard's /api/sessions and /api/ws endpoints.

How to install Hermes Mobile PWA

These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.

npm install
npm run dev
hermes dashboard --host 0.0.0.0 --port 9119 --no-open

Requirements: A Hermes dashboard on a reachable private address with username and password auth enabled

Note: It is an initial MVP, token mode is experimental, and the README warns against exposing the dashboard or client to the open internet without real authentication.
