Skills CLI

vercel-labs/skills

Command-line installer for open agent skills, run with npx skills, covering dozens of coding agents

In short

Skills CLI is the command-line tool, run as npx skills, for installing agent skills from GitHub, GitLab, other git hosts or local folders into a supported coding agent. It is a general installer for the open skills ecosystem rather than a Hermes-specific tool.

What Skills CLI does

Skills CLI installs agent skills from a source into the skills directory of the agent you choose. Sources can be GitHub shorthand such as vercel-labs/agent-skills, full GitHub URLs, direct paths to a skill inside a repo, GitLab, Azure Repos, any git URL or a local path. Private repositories use the authentication already configured for the URL, such as a Git credential helper, GitHub CLI or SSH, and GITHUB_TOKEN or GH_TOKEN can be set for GitHub API access.

Options let you install globally with -g, target agents with -a, pick skills with -s, list a repo's skills with -l, copy files instead of symlinking with --copy, and skip prompts with -y or --all. A separate skills use command generates a prompt for one skill without installing it, or starts a supported agent interactively with that prompt. The README states support for OpenCode, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and 75 more agents; its excerpt does not show whether Hermes Agent is on that list.

Key features

  • Installs skills from GitHub, GitLab, Azure Repos, any git URL or a local path
  • Targets specific agents with -a and installs user-wide with -g
  • Lists the skills in a repository with --list
  • Uses a skill without installing it through skills use
  • Reaches private repositories through existing Git, GitHub CLI or SSH credentials
  • Symlink or --copy install modes

When to use it

  • Installing a shared skill pack into several coding agents with one command
  • Trying a skill once by piping a generated prompt into an agent without installing it
  • Pulling skills from a private company repository

Who it is for: Developers who manage SKILL.md skills across one or more coding agents and want a single installer.
