Deterministic compaction of noisy tool output for Hermes Agent, with no model calls
Noisegate is a Hermes Agent plugin and CLI that compacts noisy tool output such as test logs and build spam before it fills the model's context window. It uses fixed rules and does not call a model.
What Noisegate does
Noisegate is a small, deterministic compaction layer for Hermes Agent. It reduces output from pytest and unittest, apt, pip and uv installs, npm, pnpm and yarn, git status and git log, and Docker build and log commands. Anything else long falls back to a deterministic head and tail trim. It does not call a model and does not summarize logs.
It deliberately leaves exact content alone: file reads, patches and diffs, rg and grep output, skill documents, memory, MCP, search and web extraction results, complete strict JSON documents and unknown tools unless explicitly allowed. When unsure, it does nothing. It registers the Hermes hooks transform_terminal_output and transform_tool_result, and it also ships a CLI usable in terminals, scripts and CI. Hermes-LCM remains a separate recovery layer, and lcm_ tool results stay exact. The Python package noisegate-hermes must be installed in the same environment that runs hermes.
Key features
- Compacts pytest, package-install, git, Docker and similar noisy output
- Never calls a model, so results are deterministic
- Leaves file reads, diffs, code search, memory and MCP results exact
- Registers the transform_terminal_output and transform_tool_result hooks
noisegate install-hermesinstalls, enables the plugin and runsnoisegate doctor- CLI for terminals, scripts and CI, plus an npm installer wrapper
When to use it
- Stop a long test run from filling the context window with passing lines
- Trim Docker build and package install logs while keeping the errors
- Preview the install steps first with the --dry-run option
Who it is for: Hermes Agent users whose tool output regularly floods the context window.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
It is built as a Hermes Agent plugin that must be installed into the same Python environment as the hermes launcher.
