Hermes plugin that adds a private elapsed-time hint only when a conversation has gone quiet for long enough
time-gap is a small Hermes plugin that tells the model when a conversation has meaningfully aged, without timestamping every message. It stays silent during an active chat and adds one coarse private hint after a long gap or a date change.
What time-gap does
time-gap is a small Hermes plugin that tells the model when a conversation has meaningfully aged, without timestamping every message. During a continuous chat it stays silent. When the gap since the last assistant message reaches a configured threshold, or the local calendar date rolls over, it adds one coarse private hint such as [time-gap: about 2 days have passed since the previous exchange] to the current user turn at API-call time.
The model is told to factor the hint in and never quote it, which helps it reconsider stale plans, dates and deadlines. Elapsed time comes from the last persisted assistant message in state.db, opened read-only, so it survives restarts. The note rides on the current user turn rather than the system prompt, which keeps the prompt cache intact, and it is never written back to session history. Midnight follows Hermes's configured timezone. The defaults are a 120-minute threshold, date-change detection on and cron excluded, all adjustable under plugins.entries in config.yaml, and a missing database or read error fails open.
Key features
- Silent during active back-and-forth, with a hint only after min_gap_seconds (default 7200)
- Date-rollover hint when the chat crosses local midnight in Hermes's configured timezone
- Hint injected at API-call time, so the cached system-prompt prefix and session history stay untouched
- Reads state.db in read-only mode and fails open on errors
- Configurable excluded platforms, with cron excluded by default
- Optional debug log of the plugin's decisions
When to use it
- Resuming a project chat after a weekend and having Hermes reconsider old deadlines
- Keeping time awareness without noisy timestamps on every message
- Leaving scheduled cron runs unaffected by elapsed-time notes
Who it is for: Hermes Agent users who return to long-running conversations after hours or days and want the model to notice the delay.
