Textual TUI for creating, previewing and activating Hermes CLI skins, with ASCII logo and hero art

In short

Skinwalker is a Textual-based terminal app for creating, editing, previewing and activating Hermes CLI skins. It works against the real Hermes skin schema and saves skins into the active Hermes home.

What Skinwalker does

Skinwalker reads the real built-in skins from Hermes, edits the real skin schema, saves custom skins into ~/.hermes/skins/ and activates one by updating display.skin in the chosen profile's config.yaml. A terminal-native live preview sits beside a generated YAML preview, and whole-skin YAML can be imported from text or a file and exported to a path.

Editor tabs cover identity, colors, spinner, art and AI. The Art tab generates logos from text with pyfiglet and hero art from an image with Pillow, with controls for brightness, contrast, dithering and more, and exports to .txt or PNG. The spinner tab edits wing pairs, waiting and thinking faces and verbs, with a live animated preview. The AI tab can generate branding, spinner, logo, hero art and skin bundles through Hermes or configured API backends. The repository also includes imagewalker, a standalone image-to-ASCII tool, and the app offers undo, redo and modified-field highlighting.

Who it is for: Hermes Agent users who want to customize the look of the Hermes CLI beyond picking a stock theme.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Built for Hermes CLI skins: it reads the built-in skins from a local Hermes checkout and writes into the active Hermes home.

Requirements: Python 3.13+ and a local Hermes checkout at ~/.hermes/hermes-agent (override with --hermes-root or HERMES_AGENT_ROOT)

Note: The README describes it as an upgraded working beta, with color workflow, responsive art and async AI work still on the roadmap.
