Open-source Go coding agent that keeps repo memory in .memcode and can migrate a Hermes setup
memcode is an open-source coding agent written in Go that stores a persistent model of your repo in a .memcode folder and can import a Hermes Agent setup with a single command.
What memcode does
memcode ships as one Go binary with two modes. Code is an interactive terminal agent that remembers the repo layout, approaches that failed and preferences you corrected, all stored in .memcode so the memory travels with the repository. It offers /plan to draft an approach before execution, sub-agents and background jobs you check with /jobs and /tail, MCP servers, Agent Skills, hooks, and instructions read from MEMCODE.md, AGENTS.md or CLAUDE.md.
Agents is the same binary running as a self-hosted gateway. It answers on twelve channels: Telegram, Discord, Slack, GitHub, WhatsApp, Email, Signal, Matrix, Mattermost, Microsoft Teams, Google Chat and SMS, and unknown senders must pair with a code you approve. For people coming from Hermes Agent, memcode hermes migrate brings over channels, API keys, skills and long-term memory. It runs on your own API keys, a local endpoint such as Ollama, or a hosted memcode account.
Key features
- Persistent repo memory stored in a .memcode folder
- Plan mode with /plan and approval before execution
- Sub-agents and background jobs, checked with /jobs and /tail
- Self-hosted gateway on twelve channels including Telegram, Slack and Signal
- memcode hermes migrate imports channels, API keys, skills and long-term memory
- Agents can hold a standing objective and run unattended on a schedule
When to use it
- Moving an existing Hermes Agent setup into a coding agent that remembers the repo
- Fixing a bug from Telegram or another chat app and getting the reply in the same thread
- Sharing repo memory with a team by committing the .memcode folder
Who it is for: Developers who use terminal coding agents and want persistent repo memory, including Hermes users considering a migration.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
memcode is a separate agent rather than a Hermes plugin, with a migration command that moves a Hermes setup's channels, API keys, skills and long-term memory into memcode.
Requirements: A model source: your own API keys, a local endpoint such as Ollama, or a hosted memcode account
