Terminal TUI for managing remote Hermes Agent tmux sessions from a Docker container
Hermes Gate is a terminal UI for managing Hermes Agent tmux sessions that run on remote cloud servers. It lets you browse servers, watch live agent output and send prompts, and it raises desktop notifications when a task finishes.
What Hermes Gate does
Hermes Gate is a terminal UI, built with Textual, for managing Hermes Agent tmux sessions that run on remote cloud servers. It runs from a single Docker container and lets you pick a server, create, connect to and destroy sessions, watch live Hermes Agent output and send prompts. Ctrl+C and Ctrl+E pass an interrupt and an escape to the remote session without leaving the TUI.
Because sessions live in remote tmux, tasks keep running if your connection drops or you quit the TUI; running ./run.sh again reconnects. The TUI shows real-time latency from TCP probing, supports SSH config aliases, and resolves hostnames through /etc/hosts. A gate-notify plugin deployed to the remote server signals when the agent finishes a turn, and a watcher on your host raises a desktop notification and plays a sound on macOS, Linux and Windows.
Key features
- Interactive server picker with multi-server, multi-session management
- Create, connect to and destroy remote tmux sessions
- Live Hermes Agent output view with prompt sending
- Real-time latency and connection status from TCP probing
- SSH config alias support and hostname resolution through /etc/hosts
- Desktop notification and sound when an agent task finishes
When to use it
- Checking on a long Hermes task running on a cloud server over an unstable connection
- Switching between Hermes sessions on several servers from one terminal
- Getting a popup and sound when a remote agent finishes so you can look away
Who it is for: Developers who run Hermes Agent on remote servers and want a managed terminal interface instead of juggling raw SSH and tmux commands.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
A companion tool for Hermes Agent that attaches to Hermes tmux sessions on remote servers and auto-deploys a gate-notify plugin there.
How to install Hermes Gate
These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.
./run.shRequirements: Docker and an SSH key in ~/.ssh/
Note: Quitting the TUI stops the local Docker container, and if the SSH connection drops you must re-enter the session manually, though remote tmux sessions keep running.
FAQ
What is Hermes Gate?
Hermes Gate is a terminal UI for managing Hermes Agent tmux sessions on remote cloud servers. It runs in a Docker container and handles server selection, session management, live output and prompt sending.
What happens to my Hermes sessions when I quit Hermes Gate?
They keep running. Hermes Gate is a temporary local client, so quitting stops only the local Docker container. Run ./run.sh again to reconnect to the remote tmux sessions.
What do I need to run Hermes Gate?
You need Docker and an SSH key in ~/.ssh/. Starting it with ./run.sh builds the container and opens the TUI.
