Executable agent skills for debugging, planning, token efficiency and safe working habits
Hermes Core Skills is a pack of executable agent skills for debugging, planning, token efficiency and safe working habits, written as step-by-step workflows an agent loads and follows. It targets Hermes Agent, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.
What Hermes Core Skills does
The skills are workflow files rather than a framework. Highlights include systematic-debugging, a four-stage Report, Context, Hypothesis, Fix flow under the rule no root cause, no fix; self-regulation-brake-system, which forces a stop after 3 failures and a stall report after 5 minutes; writing-plans, which asks for a plan before code changes; subagent-driven-development; token-efficiency; checkpoints-and-rewind, which backs up before any change; and hermes-tweet, for X/Twitter research with gated actions.
The README groups them into an Agent Core set of 13 skills plus further sets, and says they work alongside any agent instead of needing code integration. For Claude Code, Cursor and Codex you copy the skills directory into that tool's skills folder, and for Hermes Agent the README says skills are auto-dispatched from ~/.hermes/skills/. After installing, you tell the agent to use a named skill, for example the systematic-debugging skill on a given error.
Key features
- systematic-debugging with a four-stage Report, Context, Hypothesis, Fix workflow
- self-regulation-brake-system that stops after 3 failures and reports stalls
- writing-plans for planning before touching code
- subagent-driven-development for splitting work across sub-agents
- token-efficiency and checkpoints-and-rewind skills
- hermes-tweet for X/Twitter research with gated actions
When to use it
- Stopping an agent from patching bugs before it finds the root cause
- Limiting runaway loops and token burn when an agent keeps failing
- Getting a backup checkpoint before an agent edits files
Who it is for: Developers using Hermes Agent, Claude Code, Codex or Cursor who want ready-made workflows that keep coding agents careful.
