Record a browser workflow once and compile it into a reusable skill for Hermes and other agents
Freu CLI is a browser-edition tool that compiles a recorded browser session into a reusable SKILL.md plus JSON steps. The skill can be placed in the skills directory of agents including Hermes.
What Freu CLI does
Freu CLI works like an ahead-of-time compiler for browser tasks. You record a workflow in Chrome through the Freu AI Browser Automater extension, and freu-cli learn runs a four-stage pipeline (normalize, resolve, identify, synthesize) that produces a SKILL.md and JSON steps. The compile step uses an LLM, which the README puts at about 50k tokens, spent once.
At run time the agent loads the skill and runs the command directly, so the page DOM is not sent to the model again. Targets are stored as semantic constellations of an element, its ancestors and anchors, which the project says keeps skills working after class renames or layout changes. When the goal is to retrieve data, such as a price, the compiler binds the value-bearing element as a command output. The LLM is selected with LLM_MODEL through LiteLLM and defaults to gpt-5.1.
Key features
- Records a browser session and compiles it into SKILL.md plus JSON steps
- Semantic constellation targeting intended to survive class and layout changes
- Retrieval objectives bound as command outputs
- LLM provider choice through LiteLLM, including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, xAI and MiniMax
- Skills drop into Claude Code, Codex CLI, Cursor, OpenClaw and Hermes skills directories
When to use it
- Turn a repeated web workflow into a skill that a Hermes agent runs without re-reading the page
- Extract a value from a site, such as a price, as a command output
- Cut repeated browser-reasoning cost for tasks you run often
Who it is for: Developers who give agents repeatable browser tasks and want to avoid paying for page reasoning on every run.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
Hermes is one of the agents whose skills directory can receive the compiled skill. Freu CLI is a general tool and is not specific to Hermes.
How to install Freu CLI
These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.
pip install .Requirements: The Freu AI Browser Automater Chrome extension and an API key for an LLM provider supported by LiteLLM (default model gpt-5.1, with OPENAI_API_KEY)
Note: Learning a skill needs the Chrome extension and an LLM provider API key, and the code is licensed under AGPL-3.0.
FAQ
What is Freu CLI?
Freu CLI records a browser session once and compiles it into a deterministic skill command with a SKILL.md and JSON steps. The agent then runs the skill instead of reasoning over the page each time.
Does Freu CLI work with Hermes Agent?
Yes. The README says the compiled skill can be dropped into your agent's directory, with a local Hermes agent as its example, and the project description lists Hermes among supported skills directories.
What do I need to run Freu CLI?
You need the Freu AI Browser Automater Chrome extension and an API key for an LLM provider supported by LiteLLM. The default model is gpt-5.1 with OPENAI_API_KEY.
