Hermes-style persistent memory, session search and learning loop for the Pi coding agent
Pi Hermes Memory is an extension for the Pi coding agent that adds persistent memory, session search and a learning loop in the style of Hermes Agent. It is built for Pi, not for Hermes Agent itself.
What Pi Hermes Memory does
Pi Hermes Memory addresses the problem that a Pi agent forgets everything when a session closes. It stores facts, preferences and lessons in MEMORY.md and USER.md files with a 5,000-character cap each, and it searches every past conversation through SQLite FTS5. Failures, corrections, insights, conventions and tool quirks are saved in categories, with global and per-project tiers, and entries carry timestamps so consolidation knows what is stale.
Background learning reviews the conversation every 10 turns or 15 tool calls and saves what matters, and a correction from the user is saved immediately. The agent can also save how it solved a problem as a Pi-native SKILL.md through a skill_manage tool. Every memory and skill write passes a scanner that blocks API keys, tokens and SSH keys and guards against malicious content being stored. A /memory-interview command pre-fills your profile in the first session.
Key features
- Session search across past conversations with SQLite FTS5
- Persistent MEMORY.md and USER.md files
- Failure memory with categories for corrections, insights, conventions and tool quirks
- Background learning every 10 turns or 15 tool calls
- Secret scanning that blocks API keys, tokens and SSH keys from being saved
- Procedural skills saved as Pi-native SKILL.md files
When to use it
- Ask what was decided about authentication in an earlier session
- Keep a Pi agent from repeating a mistake it already hit
- Carry project conventions across sessions without retyping them
Who it is for: Pi coding agent users who want the persistent memory and learning behavior associated with Hermes Agent.
How it fits with Hermes Agent
It borrows Hermes Agent's memory model of MEMORY.md and USER.md files plus skills and a learning loop, but it runs only inside Pi and does not run in Hermes Agent.
How to install Pi Hermes Memory
These commands are copied from the project's README. Check the repository for the latest steps before you run them.
pi install npm:pi-hermes-memoryRequirements: The Pi coding agent
Note: It is an extension for the Pi coding agent and does not run inside Hermes Agent.
FAQ
What is Pi Hermes Memory?
Pi Hermes Memory is an extension for the Pi coding agent that adds persistent memory, session search, failure memory and secret scanning. It is modeled on the memory approach of Hermes Agent.
Does Pi Hermes Memory work with Hermes Agent?
No. It is an extension for the Pi coding agent that copies Hermes-style memory ideas. Hermes Agent users should look at Hermes Agent's own MEMORY.md and USER.md memory instead.
How do I install Pi Hermes Memory?
Run pi install npm:pi-hermes-memory. The README then suggests running /memory-index-sessions once to index your past sessions.
