Atomic Agent

AtomicBot-ai/atomic-agent

Local-first AI agent that runs open-weight models through llama.cpp and imports Hermes sessions

In short

Atomic Agent is a local-first AI agent that keeps its control loop and state on your machine and runs local models through llama.cpp or cloud models. On first run it can import sessions, cron jobs and, optionally, provider keys from an existing Hermes install.

What Atomic Agent does

Atomic Agent drives your browser, edits files, runs approved shell commands, inspects documents, remembers context across sessions, schedules follow-ups and calls external tools over MCP. It can use a local model, a cloud model, or both in Fusion mode, where one model plans and a pool of workers executes. It is built llama.cpp-first so small quantized models stay useful for long, multi-step work on consumer hardware, and it can be embedded in other apps over HTTP or a Tauri sidecar.

On first run it offers to import data from other agents without overwriting existing data or touching the source. From Hermes it brings sessions, cron jobs and, if you opt in, provider keys, and it also imports from Claude Code, Codex, Oh-My-Pi, Pi and OpenClaw. Builds exist for macOS on Apple Silicon, Linux x64 and arm64, and Windows x64. The README marks it as a developer preview where APIs, commands and config are still moving.

Key features

  • Control loop and all state kept on your machine
  • Local models through llama.cpp, cloud models, or both in Fusion mode
  • Browser control, file editing, approved shell commands and MCP tool calls
  • Memory across sessions and scheduled follow-ups
  • First-run import from Hermes, Claude Code, Codex, Oh-My-Pi, Pi and OpenClaw
  • Self-update and a single atomic-agent uninstall command

When to use it

  • Move from Hermes Agent to a local-first agent while keeping sessions and cron jobs
  • Run a long task on a small local model on consumer hardware
  • Embed an agent in your own app over HTTP

Who it is for: Developers who want an agent that runs locally on open-weight models and can bring over their existing agent history.

How it fits with Hermes Agent

Tagged hermes-agent; its first-run importer can bring Hermes sessions, cron jobs and, if you opt in, provider keys into Atomic Agent.
